Brent Burdick Elected as Treasurer for the Euro-Asia Division

July 6, 2010

In one of the last 2010 GC Session Nominating Committee reports, delivered on Thursday July 1, Man-Sask Conference Treasurer Brent Burdick was elected as Treasurer for the Euro-Asia Division, based in Moscow.  Brent has served the Man-Sask Conference for five years, coming from the Canadian office of the General Conference Auditing Service and previously was Undertreasurer for the SDACC.  Brent follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Bert Stickle, who was Treasurer of the Man-Sask Conference from 1947-1954 and who later served in India as Treasurer of the Southern Asia Division.  Brent has served the Man-Sask Conference well as our Treasurer; during his time here Tithe increased an average of 6.5% per year and Conference Advance an average of 7.0% per year.

Brent and Angela Burdick were not exactly planning for a major change in their lives, only deciding to go to the 59th Session a month or so earlier.  Arriving in Atlanta on Sunday, they enjoyed a few days attending various sessions and meetings.  Although a few contacts had expressed interest in their service overseas or at the North American Division, nothing was more shocking than the phone call received Thursday morning from the General Conference inquiring if Brent would let his name be taken to the Nominating Committee.  Ultimately Brent and Angela accepted the nomination for Brent to serve as Treasurer of the Euro-Asia Division (ESD), based in Moscow, Russia.  Both Brent and Angela come from missionary minded families and were hoping God would lead them in a direction that would take them overseas at some point in the future.  They had no idea it would happen so soon and so suddenly!  By 3 p.m. on Thursday they were being introduced as part of the Nominating Committee Report to the delegates at the business session.

The Euro-Asia Division is a young division, organized in 1990 and stretching over 12 nations of the former Soviet Union.  The division complex is also quite new, even including apartments for Division staff.  Brent recounts that he was thrown right into the business of the division that same Thursday evening and all the next day.  Meetings were held with their newly elected Board of Directors to elect officers of the attached union missions and union of churches mission.  Earlier in the week the GC Session had elected a new president and secretary for the division.  The President, Guillermo E. Biaggi, follows Artur A. Stele, who was elected a general vice president of the church.  Biaggi previously served as ESD Treasurer, so Brent will be fortunate to work with a President who knows the finances there.  The Division Secretary, Vladimir A. Krupskyi, previously served as President of the Ukraine Union.

Ken Wiebe, Collin Akre and other staff of the Man-Sask Conference were caught off guard with Brent’s appointment.  As a former General Conference auditor and Union Undertreasurer, Brent has a great understanding of financial operations, procedures, reporting and church administration.  We will be both sad and happy as they leave our conference for Moscow.

Brent and Angela are excited about the opportunity to serve and experience God in a new setting with expanded responsibilities. The couple was very involved in, and will be missed by, the local Saskatoon Central Church. They were part of a growing young adult and professional group who reached out to visiting young people, often resulting in their becoming members of the church.  Brent served as an Elder, and Angela was responsible for church communications.

The Man-Sask Conference wishes to extend our thanks to Brent and Angela for their service and our congratulations on his election as Treasurer for the Euro -Asia Division!

Brent Angela EAD
