Camp Meeting 2009 Highlights
September 28, 2009
Camp Meeting 2009 was considered by all to be another successful event – a time of spiritual renewal, a time for renewal of friendships, a time for personal reflection and a time to pitch in and help share the work. Preparations for Camp Meeting 2009 began shortly after Camp Meeting 2008, and even earlier as Conference staff are always on the lookout for future speakers. This year we had another great line-up of presenters covering a variety of topics, yet all addressing the chosen theme of: Extreme Makeover – Restored in His Image.
Sandra Godsoe, prepared a wonderful banner with artwork and theme lettering for the main auditorium platform, as seen in the commissioning photo on page 3 of the September 2009 Prairie Horizon.
Main Auditorium Speakers
The opening night’s address came from Pastor Bill Santos – Speaker/Director of IIW Canada. Bill inspired us with stories of God’s working through IIW as they travel Canada and abroad – especially in Angola where they recently trained local pastors in public evangelism.
Our keynote speaker for this year’s Extreme Makeover theme was Dr. Neil Nedley. Scheduled to speak on the first weekend and then through to Friday – Dr. Nedley was called by the General Conference to represent our Church at the World Health Organization Conference meetings in Geneva, Switzerland which meant that he had to leave on Monday.
Dr. Nedley did have time to speak on 4 occasions and also presented content (along with Paula Reiter) for the Depression Recovery Seminar held at the Yorkton Adventist Church on Friday and Sunday of the first weekend.
With Dr. Nedley leaving some times slots open, we were fortunate to have Pastor Ron Watts fill in – speaking for the Young Adults on the first weekend, and then evenings from Monday to Thursday in the main auditorium. Ron began his ministry in our Conference and so many attendees knew him personally and enjoyed hearing him speak again.
Dr. Rueben Lorenson from Canadian University College (CUC) filled the afternoon seminar time with an engaging, practical health message that was enjoyed by all.
Jim and Carolyn Sutton took a heavy schedule, speaking for all ages – they kept everyone laughing and reflecting on the various challenges that life throws at us, challenges we can meet and overcome with God as our strength.
Dr. May-Ellen Colón engaged attendees each morning as she presented concepts and ideas for all of us to get involved in serving our local community. She used the imagery of how salt is meant to season and mingle in our recipes/community – not to be concentrated in one spot where it will assault our taste buds or to be left on the shelf where it can become stale and unusable.
Dan Jackson took the main auditorium platform for the final Sabbath School time and then also spoke for the Young Adults, who met in the cafeteria, on the final weekend.
