Haiti Giving Update – Man-Sask Conference

January 22, 2010

The Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference would like to take this opportunity to thank our church members and friends for the support we’ve seen directed towards the relief work in Haiti. We are only beginning to comprehend the earthquake’s impact on individuals, the nation of Haiti, and our church organization.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is focusing on two areas of need related to this disaster:

1) The humanitarian needs of the general population of Haiti – during January

2) The needs of our Adventist churches, schools, and other organizations in Haiti – February 6th

Donations have been pouring in to ADRA Canada which will be matched by the Canadian government for humanitarian and relief efforts in Haiti. As mentioned before, the preferred method of giving is directly to ADRA Canada by phone, mail or online at www.adra.ca. Although less preferred, donations given through local church offering collections and clearly marked “ADRA Canada – Haiti Disaster” will be forwarded to ADRA Canada through the regular church offering channels. A list of the individual donors will need to be sent to the ADRA Canada office.

The North-American Division has announced a special offering that will be collected on February 6 for the needs of our fellow Adventists in Haiti. A number of Adventist churches and schools were destroyed by the earthquake. The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada is putting together plans for specific projects that will be overseen by Canadians and meet our government regulations for doing charitable work outside Canada.

Please note for the February 6 offering that members will be encouraged to give above and beyond the regularly scheduled church budget offering for which our local churches still need our support. The Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference Administrative Committee has voted to commit from its reserves $2,000 towards ADRA Canada’s relief effort and $2,000 towards the February 6 special offering.

An email with information on giving was sent to you and the bulletin secretaries yesterday – you can also read it at the offering call. You have already been sent a brochure for the ADRDA Canada promotion, and will be receiving another special bulletin insert in time for the February 6 offering. Please also check our website for news www.mansask.org.

We are proud of the care, concern, and support that our Man-Sask members have shown in this tragedy. Please continue to lift the people of Haiti up in prayer as you consider how you may be able to help.

Sincerely,

Brent Burdick, Treasurer
